Chelsea Groton Bank JUNE 2018

Employee Spotlight: Get to Know Rebecca Magner

Fourth of JulyProviding financial education to the community is something Rebecca Magner, Assistant Branch Manager at the Groton Branch, is passionate about. Growing up, Rebecca had always wanted to be a teacher but had a strong interest in finance as well. As an Assistant Branch Manager, she's able to coach and mentor her team and customers, which brings her two loves together.

Rebecca, who also teaches financial education classes as a Chelsea Educator, recently participated in Junior Achievement Day at Sayles Elementary School in Baltic, CT. Volunteers from Chelsea Groton Bank spent the day teaching 1st – 7th grade classrooms on a variety of subjects, including budgeting, the importance of education, and careers they could have one day. The 2nd grade class that Rebecca taught learned how money moves through a community, businesses and employees, and even learned about taxes.

"It was fun to be involved with the community in a different way, and I enjoyed teaching the students about things I deal with on a day-to-day basis," Rebecca shared. "Seeing the students and our team working together and watching the excitement from the kids made me happy. I know our team had a big impact on the kids, and they had a big impact on us as well."

This year, Rebecca is also heading up Chelsea Groton Bank's entry into the Town of Groton's 39th Annual 4th of July Parade. The Chelsea Groton team, Chelsea A. Corn mascot and the Bank's VW Beetle participate in the Parade each year. This year's Parade theme is "Groton – A Great American Town". The parade, run by the Town of Groton Parks and Recreation Department, will be traveling along Route 1 from Poquonnock Plains Park to the Groton Shopping Center at Drozdyk Drive, with the viewing stand in front of Chelsea Groton Bank.

Rebecca is also on the Westerly Heart Walk's committee for the American Heart Association and the Board of Directors for the Jonnycake Center of Westerly. When she's not working or volunteering, Rebecca is finishing up her degree in business management and enjoys spending time with her family, especially her niece and nephew.
