Helping the Local Community Save During America Saves Week
 As a proud community partner of the Connecticut Saves Campaign and America Saves Week 2017, scheduled for February 27 – March 4, Chelsea Groton Bank is spreading the saving message and urging its network to encourage people to make savings automatic, in anticipation of America Saves Week and all year-round.
"Being involved in the Connecticut Saves chapter of America Saves Week is a great way to help people in our community set a goal and make a plan for savings," said Pam Days-Luketich, AVP, Community Outreach Officer at Chelsea Groton Bank. "In the days leading up, and throughout the week, we will be posting savings tips and advice on our social media channels. We'll also be hosting a variety of free classes in the next few months that cover budgeting, improving credit scores, and more."
America Saves Week is coordinated by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council. Started in 2007, the Week is an annual opportunity for organizations to promote good savings behavior and a chance for individuals to assess their own saving status. The Week is intended to motivate, encourage, and support low- to moderate-income households to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth.
The 2016 annual America Saves Week survey assessing national household savings revealed:
- Just two out of every five U.S. households report good or excellent progress in meeting their savings needs.
- 52 percent are saving enough for a retirement with a desirable standard of living.
- Only 43 percent have automatic savings outside of work.
- More men (74 percent) report saving progress than woman (67 percent).
- Those with a savings plan with specific goals (55 percent) are making much more savings progress than those without a plan (23 percent).
With more societal encouragement and support, the hope is that more Americans will be persuaded to set a goal, make a plan, and save automatically. Take the pledge and commit to a savings goal today.
