Chelsea Groton Foundation Awards $93k in Grants to 47 Area Non-Profits

Chelsea Groton FoundationThe Chelsea Groton Foundation awarded $93,059 in grants to 47 non-profit organizations from Connecticut and Rhode Island this fall. Inclusive of these donations, the Foundation has provided over $2.2 million in total grants to the community since 1999. The Foundation reviews applications and awards its community grants two times per year.

"As a mutual bank, our commitment to serve our community is part of our mission," said Michael Rauh, President and CEO of Chelsea Groton Bank. "The grants awarded this fall went to organizations that greatly impact our region in a variety of areas – homelessness, hunger, mental health, economic opportunity, recreational programming, and more. We are honored to partner with local non-profits who help make our community what it is today."

Fall grant awards included: $2,500 to Madonna Place, Inc. in Norwich to provide essential services given by the family support center; $2,000 to Riverfront Children's Center in Groton to replace flooring in four classrooms; $3,000 to Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of New London County to develop an employment training program allowing graduates to obtain employment in a competitive job market; $500 to the Connecticut Humane Society to run free pet wellness clinics; $5,000 to Martin House to purchase food used for residents in Norwich; and $2,000 to Jonnycake Center of Westerly, Inc. for their Pantry Assistance Program to purchase vital supplies and food.

Each year, Chelsea Groton Bank and the Chelsea Groton Foundation support more than 200 local organizations through monetary gifts, grants, sponsorships, scholarships, employee volunteerism and food, clothing and supply drives. A full list of grant recipients can be found at chelseagroton.com.

The Chelsea Groton Foundation's board reviews applications for its Community Grants two times each year. The next application deadline is Friday, April 21.

Formed in June 1998 as a Section 501(c) (3) organization and endowed with a $2,000,000 donation from Chelsea Groton Bank, the Foundation has, to date, awarded over $2.2 million in grants to hundreds of scientific, educational and charitable organizations located within the bank's Eastern Connecticut and Southern Rhode Island market area. Applications are accepted year round and reviewed in the spring and fall.
