Chelsea Groton Bank to Offer Free Financial Seminars this Fall

Financial ClassesChelsea Groton Bank is producing and sponsoring a number of financial literacy seminars this fall to educate members of the community on improving credit scores, home-buying, budgeting, preventing identity theft, and more. For the first time, the Bank will also offer credit/ home-buying classes that will be taught in English and Spanish. All classes are free and open to the public.

"Chelsea Groton Bank is always looking for ways to provide financial tools and resources to the community," said Pam Days-Luketich, AVP, Community Outreach Officer at Chelsea Groton Bank. "We are excited about the mix of course topics we will be offering throughout the fall and hope these classes
help individuals make well-informed financial decisions for themselves and their families."

Shred Day: Bring up to three file size boxes of confidential, personal and business documents for complimentary shredding, to help prevent identity theft.

  • Saturday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Otis Library, 261 Main St., Norwich

Credit/Home Buying Seminar / Seminario Sobre la Compra de Casas/Crédito (Offered in English and Spanish): Tips on repairing, establishing and maintaining your credit score will be shared. Attendees will also gain insight on what lenders are looking for when they analyze credit history, how to get approved for mortgage financing, recent underwriting requirements, and products that offer down payment assistance or help with costs associated with purchasing a home, in both English and Spanish.

  • Saturday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Otis Library, 261 Main St., Norwich, CT
  • Additional seminars to be held in Groton and New London. Dates and locations to be determined.

Home Buying Seminar: Information will be provided on current options and how to get approved for mortgage financing, recent underwriting requirements, and products that offer down payment assistance or help with costs associated with purchasing a home.

  • Wednesday, November 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Groton Public Library, 52 Newtown Rd., Groton

Budgeting Basics: Learn how to create a budget, reduce debt and build your savings.

Money Smart for Older Adults: We'll discuss common types of elder financial exploitation, scams that target veterans and homeowners, identity theft, and how to plan financially for unexpected life events or disasters.

  • Thursday, November 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Chelsea Groton Bank Lending Center, 273 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury

What is a Reverse Mortgage and is it Right for You?: Learn about reverse mortgages, the options available to you as a homeowner, and the advantages and the disadvantages you need to consider before deciding if a reverse mortgage is right for you.
