Chelsea Groton employees Go Red for Women on February 6

Over $600 raised to benefit American Heart Association

Waterford BranchAccording to the American Heart Association, "1 in 3 women die of heart disease and stroke, which is more than all forms of cancer combined. Although 9 in 10 women have at least one risk factor for developing heart disease, only about half are aware of the issue at all."

In an effort to bring awareness to heart disease in women, several Chelsea Groton employees wore red on Friday, February 6, American Heart Association's official Go Red for Women day. Numerous non-profit organizations and charities benefit from the Bank's regular Casual for Cause Fridays throughout the year. On these designated Fridays, employees are encouraged to donate a minimum of $5 to dress casual or wear jeans for the day ($10 if they wish to wear sneakers). Special thanks to the Waterford branch and Senior Teller Marjarie Perrone who spearheaded and coordinated the Go Red for Women event. Over $600 was raised for the American Heart Association, including $50 from customers of the Waterford branch.

According to GoRedforWomen.com, "the mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. While heart disease and stroke are often dismissed as an older man's disease, they in fact claim the lives of nearly 400,000 American women each year. To dispel this misconception and raise awareness of heart disease risk among women ,the American Heart Association established Go Red For Women in 2004. Over the past decade Go Red For Women has become the world's largest network of individuals standing together to stop heart disease in women and has led the fight to protect women's hearts through research and education. The movement's mission is to not only raise awareness but to also empower women with the necessary tools to lead heart healthy lives."
