Stepping Up to the Challenge to Walk Across America

Walk Across AmericaA few years ago, Chelsea Groton launched a wellness program for its employees called CFit STRIVE. CFit was designed to challenge and encourage the physical, mental, and financial well-being of employees. Biometric screenings, health risk assessments, life coaching, webinars on a range of topics, and informative communications are presented regularly to all employees. Last summer, employees were challenged as a group to "Walk Across America," and this summer, they were challenged again.

Employees were asked to team up with colleagues. Each team was tasked with the challenge of walking 1,200 miles. Teammates were meant to be a source of encouragement and motivation to fellow team members.

Throughout the challenge, Bank departments and branches held team walks. Colleagues could be seen having "walking meetings" and "walking lunches" instead of sitting in a conference room or at a lunch table. Employees were encouraged and inspired to achieve their goals.

A total of 148 employees participated, an 18% increase from last summer. By the end of the eight week period, every participating team achieved their goal. Employees walked a total of 27,810 miles, about 10,000 more miles than the previous year. Participants also benefitted from sunshine, fresh air and comradery!
