Stands Up for Local Hunger Awareness Month

Local Hunger Awareness MonthMany people remember to bring their canned and boxed goods to local soup kitchens and food pantries at Thanksgiving and during the winter holidays, but in the hustle and bustle of everyone's busy schedules, people often forget that hunger is a problem that lasts all year round. For this reason, June has been named National Hunger Awareness Month, and neighborhoods across the country are stepping up to support people in the United States and around the world who need assistance in purchasing food and providing it to their families.

In an effort to help the many families who depend on special programs to provide breakfast and lunch for their children during the school year, Chelsea Groton Bank will be collecting snacks for kids in each of our branches from June 22 – July 3. The food donations will be sent to the United Way to deliver to local food pantries most in need of the requested items. Food items that don't require any cooking or preparation are recommended, including: applesauce cups, breakfast bars, granola bars, jelly, juice boxes, peanut butter, and snack packs of peanut butter crackers.

In addition to accepting food donations, Chelsea Groton Bank will also contribute $1 to the United Way's campaign against hunger for every new "like" on the Bank's Facebook page, and every new "follow" on the Bank's LinkedIn page from now until July 31.

Thanks in advance for helping us help our community.
